Gilbert (Bill) Robertson discovered the Comet Gold Mine in 1935 close to Marble Bar at 22 years of age. One afternoon Bill decided to stay behind whilst Tommy Star and Harry Boyd went to the Mt Magnet for a few beverages. Bill kept working and followed a seam to the top of the hill where he found the source of a large seam of gold. As Bill had been the one to find the gold, the first crushing was put in Bills name.
