This Oak Tree grew up from a little acorn planted by John Spencer around 1870. John's father, Charles was granted the land around this area in 1852 and the family farmed the district for many years with John building up a landholding of approximately 1000 acres by 1900. John employed 13 Ticket-of-Leave convicts on his property which included livestock, a market garden and vineyard. After his death in 1910 John was buried in the Kenwick Pioneer Cemetery along with his wife Jane and one of their daughters, Elizabeth. There is a monument to the Spencer family in the park where this tree is located.
There was an oak tree in the paddock along Spencer rd. There was also another huge english mulberry tree along the same rd between the rd and Canning River. It had a child's grave under it .Apparently Diptheria .A Family by the name of Packer lived nearby
