Boer War Veteran Wants To Enlist

ROBERT McLean, 69, of Astor Terrace, veteran of two wars, tried to enlist, but without success, at the A.I.F. recruiting centre in Desmond Chambers yesterday. His record showed that he enlisted in the King's Liverpool Regiment in 1894, fought in the last South African war, received the King and Queen's Medals, and was made a King's Sergeant. He told recruiting officials yesterday that he got into the A.I.F. in the last war by putting back his age from 48 to 28. He left Queensland with the famous 9th Battalion in 1914 and saw four years' service.
